This … Read more We were delighted to acquire this beautiful piece from the estate of a collector of Asian art in Sarasota. This hand carved old rosewood and mother of pearl inlaid Chinese console table dates from the early 19th Century as is authentic in every way.
The table rests on four legs with claw feet, the apron is inset with long life symbols, bats, floral sprays and cherry blossoms throughout. A beaded edge runs around the top, each corner having auspicious lions head detailing. The craftsmanship of the carving and inlay work is excellent and the piece oozes age.
Solid mortise-and-tenon construction with no major repair but lots of lovely age related wear including loss to inlay in several places, loss and patching to wood in places, surface scratches, acceptable wood shrinkage, and restored joints.
Condition is good for age and the table is stable.
