This earthenware jug from the Taishō period is a stunning example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship from Nagoya.
Dimensions: height 20 cm, diameter 14 cm.
The warm earthy tones were achieved through the wood-fired pottery process.
The subtle organic texture and glazed finish give the jug a unique character.
On the body, a circle with Japanese characters is displayed, 八 (Hachi) meaning "eight" in Japanese.
The number eight holds symbolic significance in Japanese culture because the shape of the kanji character widens at the bottom (八), symbolizing luck, growth, and prosperity. It is also the symbol of the coat of arms of the city of Nagoya.
The underside bears the artist's signature.
A timeless and stylish decorative piece that fits beautifully into any space.
