An imposing carved statue of a saint or ecclesiastical figure hewn from a single piece of white marble. The male figure in clerical vestments is gazing aloft and holding an open book between the crossed but relaxed arms and hands of the disciple. An expertly carved and professionally executed piece that would work in either inside or outside settings. The figure is signed and dated to the rear with the name K.M.Demuynck and dated 1938. A finely carved figure depicting a head with a crown of thorns that almost certainly represents Christ features above the inscription. The piece displays a natural colour and patina to the marble which has been accentuated by the elements due to its life being predominantly outdoors. A truly fascinating item! Flemish, 1938.
