Featuring a striking kneeling figure, this cast metal piece embodies the allure of ancient Egypt, a popular design influence of the 1920s and 1930s. The figure holds a shallow dish, perfect for burning incense or as a decorative accent. Sourced from a defunct French quarter antique shop, this piece is the real deal Art Deco from the early 20th century. Egyptian revival style, at the time, was an exotic alternative to more traditional styles and the news of archeological expeditions, particularly the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, created interest among Americans. likely used for incense originally, I think it makes for a great ring dish. It would also make for fantastic halloween decor. the black patina is really beautiful and allows it to go with a variety of home styles.
