Item description:
Spectacular, beautiful classic sculpture in fine German biscuit porcelain, depicting motherhood with a lady holding a palette and brush, and a child. Made by the famous German manufacturer Scheibe-Alsbach, signed under the base with an incised mark from the late 1800s. Beautiful antique patina.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Research on the most important art and antiques sales websites shows that Scheibe-Alsbach porcelain sculptures are offered for sale at prices ranging from €150-200 to well over €1,000, depending on their beauty and size, the number of characters depicted, and whether they are biscuit or porcelain. Biscuit porcelain sculptures are more valuable, and our sculpture is considered medium-large in size compared to those we have seen for sale. However, in terms of beauty, it is certainly one of the most beautiful.
Final considerations on the object:
The biscuits produced by Scheibe-Alsbach are among the most beautiful and sought-after German biscuits internationally, among all biscuits produced by all European manufacturers, being extremely rare and of the highest artistic quality. Not even the slightest smudge, perfect plastic execution, the hair, the drapery, the eyes, the woman's mouth or the fabulous hairstyle combined with the beauty of the skirt that falls softly on the base, or the expressiveness of the child who is sleepy and bored at the same time, I assure you that in real life it is even more beautiful than in photos, a truly rare quality. The material used is also of the highest quality: thick, compact biscuit porcelain with a porous and slightly crinkled surface, not smooth and milky.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Scheibe-Alsbach is an important German manufacturer founded in 1836, which achieved international success in the production of high-quality figurines. It employed all the most important sculptors of the period and produced porcelain and biscuit figurines similar to those of Meissen. It won many awards between 1870 and 1914. In the photos immediately below this description, we have included historical information about the manufacturer and the marks used. This piece has an attribution mark,
