Such elegant lines and minimalism in this lovely Japanese mid-century mixed metal vase with hibiscus flowers. In a deep rich brick red matt finish with a marbling effect in ecru with the hibiscus blossoms in silver metal with incised details. (blossoms are silver, the photos make it look more like a gold color but is just reflections of the room) The Toyo, Japan sticker has come off the bottom. This is a wonderful example of the Japanese Mokumé technique of mixing metals to look like marbling or wood graining. Vase comes with a carved wood stand. In excellent vintage condition, no scratches, dents, or other serious flaws. Vase (with stand) measures 7.75" high and 6.5" wide

Mokume-gane (木目金) Mokumé,
which means “wood grain,” is the term used for a Japanese metalwork technique which combines and manipulates a metal laminate of different colored metals (gold, silver, copper, and other alloys) to create the appearance of wood grain or marbling. The pattern results from punching through the metal layers and then compressing them into a single plane. After the forming, an oxidizing process called “pickling” was used to bring out the colors of the different metals. See less
