Probably the upper piece of a vaisselier or deux corps china cabinet; which would be known as a "hutch" in the States or a "buffet" in the UK.

Perfect to place on a countertop for the European unfitted kitchen aesthetic, on a table or sideboard in the dining room, or as a freestanding piece anywhere in the home where attractive, additional china storage or display is desired.

Appears to be of hand hewn hardwood, with 4 shallow plate rails, a step-back, overhanging top with large finials on each end, and trestle-style feet. En verso, period-appropriate secondary species wood planks which may or may not be original to the piece. Aluminum braces have been added to secure the back planks, as shown. No maker's marks.

Dimensions: overall, 64.25W x 17.5"D (@ top), 14.5"D (@ feet) 12.25"D (at sides) x 47"H; Plate rail height clearances: below first plate rail, 8.25"H; between rails, 7.5"H; from top rail to underside of cabinet top, 13"H. Depth of plate rails: 3"D.

Good antique condition with the expected irregularities of artisan made furniture and age appropriate wear from 150 (+/-) years of enjoyment. Material loss at top left trim, old moisture damage to lowest back board, old insect damage on top board (not visible in use), wood splits in back planks and aluminum straps on back to align and secure planks, all as shown. As with any tall, slender furniture of this type, we recommend attaching to a wall behind to ensure safe, no-tip stability.
