This beautiful sculpture, dating back to the mid-1940s, is part of the series of Ballerinas created by the sculptor Broggini in the 1930s and 1940s. The plasticity, fluidity and harmony of the movements make this work, a small masterpiece, one of the best expressions of Luigi Broggini as a sculptor. The work is cataloged and accompanied by the expertise personally written by Stefano Broggini, son of the artist,
Luigi Broggini (Cittiglio, 28 January 1908 – Milan, 27 January 1983) was an Italian sculptor.
Among the protagonists of the Italian figurative arts scene in the years surrounding the Second World War, he was the author of the Agip brand, the famous six-legged dog, presented at the specific competition in 1952 by his student Giuseppe Guzzi; the authorship of the work was definitively revealed by his son only after his death.
After completing his studies at the Brera Academy, where he was a pupil of Adolfo Wildt, during fascism he frequented liberal and cosmopolitan circles. During his Parisian exile he preferred to approach the works of Degas rather than the avant-gardes.
He also lived for a period in Switzerland.
His first sculptures dating back to 1928 and his first exhibition highlighted a direction far from the official and traditional one. In fact, Broggini approached French Impressionism by developing a new concept of both the links between architecture and sculpture and between plastic elements such as chiaroscuro and pictorial luminism. He was also influenced by expressionism.
In 1952 he created the six-legged dog used by Agip for the new fuel "Supercortemaggiore" and which later became the symbol of ENI.
He passed away in 1983 at the age of 75.
