"Lucrecia "Lucra" Restrepo, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana where she had resided with her husband of 70 years, Ignacio Restrepo. Ignacio preceded her in passing, on September 14, 2021. She was born May 7, 1926 to Jose Herrera and Maria Perez in Bogota Colombia. On September 22, 1951 she married Ignacio in Bogota. Lucra and Ignacio migrated to the U.S. in 1953 when they moved to New Orleans and later lived in Houston for a time. She and Ignacio moved back to New Orleans in 2021 to spend more time with their immediate family. Lucra studied art and interior design in Bogota and became a successful artist in New Orleans, starting a full time art career in 1964. She took art classes with the Jon Kong artist, Henry Wo Yue-Kee, who helped to solidify her perception of design and balance and to perfect her watercolor technique. She also studied under nationally known artists Roma Quartana of New Orleans, Edgar Whitney of New York, John Pellow of Connecticut, Barklay Sheaks of Virginia and Robert Wood of California. Lucra developed her own unique style, a blend of Western and Eastern influences. She was comfortable with every medium: oil, watercolor and acrylic, although the major portion of her work was done in acrylic. All of her works were done from memory. Her art won her numerous awards and was collected by a broad range of private collectors and commercial clients from around the country." (Source: Legacy)
