This is a beautiful, antique jardiniere/pedestal, from the Wheeling Pottery (WV). It was produced around 1800-1900, and is in very good condition for its age.....I should look so good at 100+ years!! It has a bronzey-red glaze with white. And also is trimmed with gold highlights.
The jardiniere measures 12” in diameter, and the handles make it ap 14.5”. It is 10.75” high. The pedestal has a hexagonal top, and stands ap 16” high. There is some wear and paint loss, commensurate with age, and on one of the handles, it appears that the glaze didn’t get around it completely. However, I can find no chips or cracks. There is crazing on the inside of the pot, and a “scuff” on the top of the pedestal. Again, I should look so good at 100+ years!
Both the pot and the pedestal are stamped with the Wheeling Pottery Mark. The pot also has the numbers, 2040 (I think, blurry).
