Wonderful vintage handmade raku pottery vessel with elaborate ornamental top stopper lid by Jinsong Kim. Traditional black crackle on white clay is set off with a sculptural band of matte black clay with openwork design. The lid for the piece incorporates the same matte black clay in a highly stylized form, plus a rich Chinese red glaze. Can be displayed and used as a "stash jar" with lid in place, or used as a vase with the lid removed. Signed under the bottom with potter's initials. Excellent condition.
I am not sure when this piece was made, but guesstimating it is from the 1990s-2010. This piece was likely made during the time when the artist lived and worked in Mims, Florida per the enclosed artist's statement paperwork. Mr. Kim now resides and works in Seagrove, NC. Pls. note the artist's statement brochure is creased from being folded up and stored inside the vessel.
