A large carved painted polychrome Santos, possibly John the Baptist. 18th century or earlier. Here he wears robes of red with gilt scrolls. The paint is much faded and patinated. Typical for a Santos is the loss of both arms.
A substantial figure, he stands 20 inches tall, 8 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. The base measures 6“ x 6 3/4“ and is later.
