For those not familiar with the … Read more This is a wonderful original work by important Contemporary artist Joseph Sweeney (b 1950). For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. I bought this painting because I know there are so many Penn State families out there. Many families that have gone to the school for many generations. This painting is a must have for one of those families. A wonderful large oil on canvas of a view of the full campus and the surrounding landscape. Painting measures 42 x 56 inches. Signed lower left and dated 1983. Painting is in as painted condition. Floated in a gallery frame as this work was part of a corporate museum collection and original acquired from Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia. Original labels on the back of the stretcher. Frame measures 43 1/2 x 57 1/2 inches. A really wonderful work that can be the center piece of any decor.

For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts reads: "Joseph Sweeney received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and an MFA from Pennsylvania State University. A landscape painter living in Ardmore, PA, he teaches at the University of the Arts, Wayne Art Center, Woodmere Art Museum and Yellow Springs Studio.

Sweeney has earned numerous awards for his work from the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. His work has been included in the traveling Art in Embassies program, through the US Department of State, where it has made its way to countries around the world. He is represented by Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia, Gallery 71 in New York, Newman & Saunders Gallery in Wayne, PA, and Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, DE. His work is included in many public and private institutions, collections and museums. Sweeney teaches Drawing, Painting and Landscape in the PAFA Continuing Education program. " See less
