A lovely little model of the ancient Romsey Bushel which can be found as a Goss china model. This Georgian sterling piece was likely made in London.
Makers' Mark:
The prominent "WB" mark within a shield-like shape is the joint mark of Peter and William Bateman, used between 1805 and 1814.
A "Romsey Bushel" refers to a small, silver model of a bushel measure, often made of Goss china. It's not a standard unit of measurement, but rather a collectible item with an inscription related to Winchester, Romsey, and Joseph Mortimer. These models were often given as souvenirs or commemorative items.
The inscription reads 'Winchester Bushel Romsey Joseph Mortimer Mayor 1792'
and 'Corcoran Fecit London'.
