From the estate of Northwest School artist Neil Meitzler (1930 - 2009).
Graphite on thin paper, signed "Meitzler '59" and "Seattle '59 from Betty Bowen's House"
Betty Bowen (1918-1977) was an important figure in the Seattle arts and historic preservation scene with an interest in the founding of Pacific Northwest Arts and Crafts Center, the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Arts Commission. SAM presents the Betty Bowen Award yearly in her honor.
Bowen lived at 715 West Prospect at the time of her death, but this must be from a different house.
Meitzler's work can be found at the Seattle Art Museum; Henry Gallery at the University of Washington; Washington County Museum, Hagerstown, Maryland; Museum of Northwest Art, LaConner, WA; Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, WA; Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA; and in the corporate collections of Seattle First National Bank, Safeco Insurance, and Pacific NW Bell Telephone.
