Ubaldo Oppi was one of the initiators of the Gruppo Novecento, founded in 1922 in Milan. They were artists coming from different artistic movements but with a common sense; the return to order. Furthermore, Oppi is considered one of the greatest exponents of Magical Realism, a movement that inserts typically classical elements or human figures inserted into settings suspended in time.
The work in question is a drawing made with sanguine, a technique widely used to create sketches, on paper measuring 35.5x25.5 cm. It is a Face of a Woman and the peculiarity of the work is the back which presents a study, probably of saints or two Madonnas, made in graphite with the writing "PRUDENTIA" and "TEMPERANTIA".
The drawing is dated 1928 and signed lower right. Furthermore, there is a certificate of authenticity on a photo signed by Ubaldo Oppi's son, with the stamp of the “La Scaletta” Gallery in Reggio Emilia.
The state of conservation is good. The portrait is sold including a non-coeval frame 54x43.5x6.5 cm. This piece has an attribution mark,
