The work … Read more Very high quality solid rosewood dining set for 4 - 8 people, inlaid with gleaming mother of pearl. The work is delicate and tasteful, depicting cherry (prunus) blossoms and chrysanthemum flowers on the main table panels with small exotic birds, auspicious objects and scrolls on the sides. Simple mother of pearl cartouche decorates the back of each chair.
Hand carved dragons make up the pierced apron of the table and the eight chairs. All pieces rest on ball and claw feet. Each corner of both the table and chairs have a carved 'foo / fu lion face'. A lot of work went into all the carving on these pieces.
One extension panel. Upholstered and removable beige chair cushions of silk brocade, still in their original protective covers. Chairs are ample in size.
A stunning set that catches the eye and this is very comfortable and generously proportioned..
Rosewood of this quality is no. longer found and will outlast most anything made these days..
