Item description:
Small glazed hard-paste porcelain perfume bottle, entirely decorated by hand with hand-painted bas-relief decorations and finished in pure gold, signed under the base with an antique mark featuring the letter N under a five-pointed crown, slightly rounded outward, in blue underglaze, manufactured by Ginori Doccia. The bottle is made in the Empire style and can be dated to the first half of the 19th century, around 1800-1830.
Final considerations on the object:
The bottle cap is exquisite, with a circular crown of golden dots, a decoration that is repeated in the center of the bottle neck, and then again under two beautiful perfect concentric circles, also in gold, handmade, of great elegance. The decorations on the bottle are particularly exquisite, entirely in relief, with a rare perfection of detail. Even the rocks are in slight relief, while the mountains in the background are only painted, not in relief, to give a perspective effect of absolute effectiveness. The seagulls are also all in slight relief, a true work of art in porcelain. The four bas-relief decorations are all in neoclassical style with various subjects: ladies, fauns, cherubs, goats, a piper, and dandies, all from the classical Greek or Roman period.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Ginori factory in Doccia was one of the most prestigious Italian porcelain manufacturers. It was founded by Marquis Carlo Ginori in 1737 in Doccia. Carlo Ginori's descendants continued to own and manage it until 1896, when it merged with the Richard Ceramics Company of Milan, giving rise to the famous "Richard Ginori."
