A striking, early 18th-century French Provincial blanket chest, hand-hewn from solid wood, this rare coffer, purchased in France in the 90s, features classic mortise and tenon joinery and beautiful patina. Original iron lockplate remains intact (hinges appear newer).
Its generous size and subtly chamfered lid make it both functional and sculptural. Surface bears the hallmarks of hand craftsmanship with tool marks, deep grain, and hand-hewn quality achieved before industrialized machinery and quintessentially French country.
