The piece is a striking and mysterious work of art, a circular, flat sculpture with an intriguing history. At first glance, it appears as if time itself has carved its mark into the object. The sculpture’s round shape seems to be almost perfect, considering its former life as a tool. The jagged, uneven edges suggest it was once used as a road cutter, and these sharp, irregular contours remain as the defining feature of the piece. The metal has aged gracefully, developing a rich, textured patina in shades of brown, weathered bronze, black and even some slight hues of white, with intricate patterns of corrosion that tell the story of its years spent exposed to the elements. The aging metal and oxidation process catches the eye in unexpected ways, shifting from dark shadows to bursts of deep earthy toned copper.
Embedded in the metal are subtle traces of its past purpose—small nicks, gouges, and grooves that once served to cut and shape the road beneath it. These markings have now become part of the artwork, lending it a sense of history and purpose beyond its current life. The surface also bears faint, almost hidden patterns of natural erosion, where the elements have delicately sculpted the metal over time, a true testament to its transformation into an object of artistic beauty.
This easily hangs on a wall, as a result of the large center hole in the middle. In the photos it is being held to the wall with a screw that has been inserted into this hole. As a former heavy-duty tool you can rightfully expect a heavily weighted object. Upon entering a room this becomes an intriguing focal point—part industrial relic, part natural artifact—a convergence of man-made and natural forces. It feels like a mysterious object from a different era, repurposed into something entirely new, yet still echoing the rugged landscape and history of the woods in which it was found.
This piece is a dialogue between time, function, and artistry—turning a once purely utilitarian object into a one-of-a-kind testament to the beauty of decay and transformation.
This is 24 inches in diameter and 12 inches to the center hole, It is approximately 3mm thick.
