He was a co-founder of the avant-garde movement CoBrA (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam) in 1948, which emphasized spontaneity and experimentation in art. Appel’s style is characterized by bold colors, dynamic brushwork, and a childlike sense of expression. His works often feature abstract figures and forms, conveying raw emotion and energy. Throughout his career, Appel created a vast body of work, including paintings, sculptures, and murals, and his art is featured in major museums worldwide.
