This is a 1984 acrylic painting on paper by Canadian artist John Lim, showcasing a vibrant and whimsical depiction of a beachside scene in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The artwork captures a lively and nostalgic atmosphere, blending the charm of beach life with an intimate view of an outdoor dining area.
The composition is divided into three main horizontal sections, creating a layered perspective. The foreground highlights tables adorned with plates of food, glasses, and vases of red flowers, populated by casually dressed figures enjoying their meals. The middle ground transitions to a green lawn and roadside activity, featuring pedestrians and vintage cars. Finally, the background extends to a sandy beach and a serene blue ocean filled with playful beachgoers, framed by a clear, sunny sky.
The painting is framed under clear glass within a sleek gold-tone aluminum frame that adds a contemporary touch while preserving its vintage appeal. The neutral matting complements the vibrant colors of the artwork, enhancing its overall presentation. This piece is a delightful representation of 1980s beach culture and lifestyle, making it a valuable addition to any collection of regional or figurative art.
