Reclining Bear, Bronze Sculpture After, Antoine-Louis Barye
20th Century, 1960s Posthumous Casting
This whimsical bronze sculpture of a reclining bear is a 20th-century posthumous casting from the 1960s, crafted after the work of Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875), a prolific French sculptor, painter, and printmaker renowned for his animal subjects. Measuring 4 inches high, 5.75 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep, this charming piece captures the playful essence of the Animalier school. Inscribed with 'Barye' at the base, it sits elegantly on an oval black marble base, providing a sturdy and sleek foundation. Barye, often hailed as the father of the modern Animalier school, had a profound influence on the depiction of animals in art, and this sculpture is a testament to his legacy. Ready to place and admire, this bronze bear sculpture brings a touch of historical artistry to any collection or interior.
