A genuinely fine example of English Regency-period case furniture, this five-drawer chest presents beautifully with its original hardware intact — a relative rarity in pieces of this age. The classic two-over-three drawer arrangement sits on bracket feet beneath a clean, molded cornice, and the richly figured mahogany drawer fronts display the warm, varied grain that only comes with two centuries of age.
The oval bail pulls and matching keyhole escutcheons are original to the piece and in excellent order — finely chased with the crisp neoclassical detailing typical of English work around 1800. The top drawers are compartmented, a practical and period-appropriate detail. Secondary woods of pine, cedar, and oak confirm English origin and quality construction throughout.
Condition: Early historic finish with honest age and use. A discolored veneer patch is present on the top, and there is some loss to the drawer cockbeading in areas — both expected and acceptable in a piece of this age. These details speak to authenticity rather than detracting from it.
