A beautifully painted Ancestral Painting from the Qing Dynasty period, late 19th Century.
The genre of ancestor paintings, first seen in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), embodies the Confucian ideal of veneration of authority figures in all realms of life, including the family. Celebration of deceased family members was a part of Chinese culture as far back as the Bronze Age.
The painting is very well done and the subject is wonderful - the wardrobe and the pensive look on her face is special. Framed in a wooden frame. The pieces is mounted on wood.
A compliment to many spaces, from traditional to Modern.
