17th Century Venetian School "Christ of the Coin" Tiziano School oil on canvas 74x62 cm - with frame 86x76 cm good condition The Coin Tribute is an oil on panel painting by Titian, dating from 1516 and housed in the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden. Like many of his works it is signed "F. Ticianus." This is the first work that Titian made for the Duke of Ferrara Alfonso I d'Este, who would provide more work for the author. Titian represents the moment described in the gospels when Simon Peter responds against Jesus' accusations of not paying taxes. Jesus explains to Peter why he is exempt from doing so, but in order not to cause a disturbance he sends the apostle to miraculously obtain a coin to pay the tribute.2 This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
