Take a moment to look at the level of detail in this work of art:
Postcard size woodblock depicting a scene of Japanese ladies and a gentleman leisurely enjoying the cool evening air in the Nakasu district of Fukuoka, Japan during the Edo period; often considered a prime example of Ukiyo-e art, known for its vibrant colours and everyday life scenes.
By Torii Kiyonaga (Japanese, 1752–1815).
Desired baren marks are visible on washi paper, average bleed through. These smaller post card size prints were made after WWll in Japan for locals and foreigners alike, as a momento of their visit. The detail is incredible and the artist allows us a look back in time via these little portals of artwork. Wood block is a very time consuming and exacting art. Very collectable now.
