Sam Middleton (American, 1927-2015), Lithograph in colors, 1969, pencil signed, dated, and marked as artist's proof aside from the regular edition, the full sheet, framed under glass in light colored contemporary wooden frame.
Sam Middleton was born in New York City in the 1920's, and grew up in Harlem. Jazz and classical music themes became important inspirations throughout his artistic career. Middleton primarily worked with mixed media, and particularly collage. He developed a personal style in the language of abstract expressionism, often basing his color, line, and compositions on sound and harmony.
