Item description:
Wonderful anthropomorphic glazed ceramic vase, hand-modeled first on a potter's wheel and then further finished by hand and entirely decorated by hand under glass, in the shape of a young half-naked woman, probably, judging by her skirt, of African or indigenous ethnicity, made and signed by the "Miracoli Venezia" factory, an important ceramic manufacturer from the 1950s whose pieces are very rare and sought after by collectors. Datable to around the 1950s-1960s. Made in full cubist style.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From a web search, we find that ceramics from the "Miracoli" factory are very rare and the prices asked on online sales platforms for art and antiques, as well as the estimates and some auction results we have found, range from a minimum of €200-300 for bowls or cache pots, to over €500-600 for the most beautiful vases, which, in our opinion, are nothing compared to the beauty and rarity of our vase.
Final considerations on the object:
As we have already mentioned, our vase has nothing to do with the pieces found on the web, as we believe it to be much more beautiful, rare, and valuable. This is due to the fact that it is an anthropomorphic vase, and anthropomorphic or zoomorphic vases are certainly much rarer than common vases, plates, or bowls, most of which are also very small. Furthermore, the vase is unique in that it is made in a fully cubist style and has a beautiful Picasso-esque flavor, resembling a genuine Pablo Picasso vase. As this is a very important manufacturer, as already mentioned, it could afford to be inspired by the works of this great artist without fear of being accused of plagiarism, and at that time, these types of cubist vases were very popular.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Miracoli factory has been producing artistic ceramics in Venice since 1954. It was founded by brothers Walter and Danilo Ottolin, Adriana Urso, and Silvano Gosparini. The factory, which remained in operation until 1965, produced decorative and artistic ceramics, often in a primitivist and abstract style. This piece has an attribution mark,
