This is a gorgeous antique Chinese storage piece from the Qing Dynasty, crafted from elm. Made in Ningbo, a major coastal furniture-making region in eastern China, these cabinets were given as part of a traditional wedding dowry by the bride’s family to hold fine silks, linens, and personal valuables. Built from solid Chinese elm (yumu) layered with organic mineral lacquer and featuring contrasting black interior. Outfitted with striking brass or iron round lock plates, pin hinges, and butterfly or floral corner mounts. Designed with removable interior shelves, hidden lower compartments, and small accessory drawers. This beautiful cabinet is ideal as a media cabinet or storage armoire. It is in excellent condition and has been well cared-for. See less
