Very Rare Spode "Dollar" Pattern Variant Pearlware Chestnut Basket and Tray, Circa 1815-1825
Attributed to Spode Pottery. Founded by Josiah Spode in 1776 on High Street (Church Str) Stoke-on-Trent, England. Not marked by Spode, however research suggests that this is a variant pattern, a combination of 2 separate but similar looking patterns known to have been made by Spode.
Marked on the back: Alker, Westmorland Street, Dublin.
Though this piece was made in England, it was made for the Irish Market. Distributed through a retailer in Dublin, Circa 1820's
Very high quality decorations, and high quality craftsmanship.
We call this a chestnut basket because chestnuts were usually served from them, and they could drain off from water bath cooking.
Size: Tray is 9 1/2" by 7 1/4", Basket is 10 1/2" by 6 1/2", and 3 1/4" tall, Overall height is about 3 3/4" tall.
Condition: excellent overall condition. No chips or cracks, and very minor glaze wear/use and age marks. Excellent state of preservation.
