This four-color 6' 4" X 6' 9" Art Deco carpet was originally in the Arizona Biltmore Hotel built in 1929. One of the only existing luxury hotels in the world with a Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced design, The Arizona Biltmore has been an Arizona landmark since its opening when it was crowned "The Jewel of the Desert." The resort was designed by Albert Chase McArthur, a Harvard graduate, who had studied under Frank Lloyd Wright from 1907-1909 in Chicago.
Created by Taliesin Architects after Frank Lloyd Wright's designs for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright 1920-1967.
Construction still takes place after Wright’s death. This same pattern and several others were used in the Imperial hotel.
The pattern was recreated in the 70s for the Arizona Biltmore hotel designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur brother of Warren and son of Warren McArthur Sr. Frank Lloyd Wright built the Mcarthur house in 1892, 4852 South Kenwood Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Albert worked with Frank from 1907-1909 for a so-called remarkable collection stated Lloyd’s son John.
The Arizona Biltmore gets attributed to Frank Lloyd Wright countless times but was designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur 1927.
In the 70s Designer Kay Baden remodeled the inside of the hotel and had these carpets made by Taliesin West architects.
This example has been bound at the edges by Binding Pros the same company has done endless jobs & carpet work for Taliesin West.
Colors consist of Granny Smith's apple green, blue’s maroon magenta, and Wright’s famous red hues. Excellent original condition. Please see our other listings for the accompanying runners and larger rugs.
