This is a Great Looking Classic Early American Style Coin Silver Presentation Youth Cup - Mug. The Front has a Hand Engraved Presentation that Reads - An Uncles Gift Francis C Walker New York to His Nephew Francis C Walker Belchertown ( Massachusetts ) November 22nd 1844. Youth Cups such as these were a Very Popular Item in the Early to Late 19th Century. They were usually given as gifts to very young children by Parents - Grandparents - Other Close Family Members & Friends. This is a Completely Silversmith Hand Made Piece of Silver. It has no Silver or Maker Marks but that is not uncommon with some of these earlier pieces of American Silver. Based on its Style it was Most Likely Made in New York. It has a Substantial Solid Coin Silver Weight of 108.04 Grams / 3.474 Troy Ounces. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. Very Light Age and Use Related Wear - No Damage. It is Lightly Tarnished - Needs a Good Polishing.
It has Been Professionally Tested and is Guaranteed to be Solid Coin Silver.
It Measures Overall Approx 4 1/4 inches Tall x 4 1/8 inches Long x 3 inches Wide.

The Early American Silver Makers adopted the Coin Silver Standard up until around the Late 1860s to Early 1870s at which point in time they started to adopt the Sterling Silver Standard. American Coin Silver has a 90% - 900/1000 Silver Content, and Sterling Silver has a slightly higher 92.5% - 925/1000 Silver Content. Pure Silver is 99.9% Pure - That is to say that it Contains No Other Alloy Metals. Some of Pieces of American Coin Silver items that were produced were marked "Coin" - but it should be Noted that many of the other pieces that were produced during that period Have No Silver Mark At All. Once the Sterling Standard took hold the vast majority of the Silver Pieces that were produced by Numerous American Silver Companies were marked "Sterling". All of the Unmarked American Silver Pieces that I Sell on Chairish are Professionally Tested and are Absolutely Guaranteed to Have the Silver Content as Stated.
