This 1940s figurative oil painting by German-Brazilian artist Alfred Koenig features a Brazilian street scene in Rio. A man rests in a street-side doorway stoop beside a basket of peppers or fruits with a satchel in his lap. The warm peachy, pink, and yellow tones contrasting with sharp shadows evoke a bright and sunny afternoon.
The artist's signature in the bottom left corner reads 'Koenig Rio', and stamps on the frame confirm the provenance of Rio De Janeiro. The frame is carved wood layered in plaster and paint.
