Rare artist's proof serigraph for "Monument #6" that would be issued in 1972 in the "Monument Studies" portfolio of prints. Signed "NAMA", dated "1971" and lettered "A.P." in pencil by the artist, with two dry stamps below the print's center. Print size: 10 x 8 inches. Presented in a pure white, 8-ply 18 x 16-inch conservation mat. Mint condition ex Phyllis Lucas Gallery collection.
George Nama is an American painter, sculptor and draftsman born in Homestead, PA in 1939. In the mid-1960s, he trained as a master printer at Atelier 17 in Paris. Nama's work often incorporates elements of surrealism and expressionism, exploring themes of identity, mythology, and the human condition. He is known for drawings and lithographs of common objects such as scissors, safety pins and lipstick. His paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions, including shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. His works are in the collections of the Morgan Library, LACMA, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and others. This untitled serigraph incorporates several elements of his style.
