Watercolor "Ganymede" by Benjamin Rowland Jr (1904-1972). signed lower right. Includes a 1950s label from the Boston gallery Doll and Richards, entry label for the 10th annual Spring Exhibition of the Cambridge Art Association, and a Jury Award for that same show.
Ganymede was a divine hero (and the most handsome of men) in Ancient Greek mythology that was abducted by the eagle of Zeus and taken to Mount Olympus. In the center of the painting the figure of Ganymede is surrounded by the massive eagle.
