This exquisite lamp is a stunning fusion of artistry and functionality, crafted by the renowned Hippolyte François Moreau (1832-1927), a distinguished member of the illustrious Moreau family of sculptors from Dijon, France. Alongside his brother August and father Jean-Baptiste, Moreau made significant contributions to the world of sculpture, and this lamp exemplifies his exceptional talent.
During World War II, the original molds were carefully concealed to safeguard them from the Nazis. After the war, the molds were recovered and later utilized by the JB Hirsch Company to produce magnificent spelter metal sculptures under the Collection Francaise brand. Thanks to this careful preservation, every intricate detail including the Hip Moreau signature was reproduced, ensuring that the lamp retains its original charm and character.
At the heart of this lamp is a beautifully crafted scene showcasing a young couple, villagers deeply in love, as they embrace each other with tender arms while strolling barefoot across the lush grass. Leaning in closely, they share a moment of gentle curiosity, captivated by a delicate flower cradled between them. This intimate scene beautifully captures the essence of youthful romance, encapsulating the innocence and joy of a fleeting moment that resonates with anyone who has ever experienced the magic of young love.
The young lady’s hair is styled in playful pigtails that frames her beautiful face. Her flowing dress dances with the breeze, its intricate folds capturing movement and life. The young man, with his thick curls that complements his boyishly handsome face. He is wearing rolled-up knickers and a casual v-neck shirt, combined with a hat draped over his shoulder.
The beautiful gilt gold tone reflects light and enhances the sculpture’s details and brings warmth to any space. This feature allows it to harmonize effortlessly with a variety of interior design styles, from classic to contemporary.
