A massive 19th century mantel mirror in the style of Louis XVI, with original mirror plate. The gilded, rectangular frame is topped with a carving of two, superimposed laurel wreaths, perhaps a doubly auspicious symbol of achievement, which is fitting for such a grand mirror that stands over eight feet tall. Surrounded by moldings of acanthus leaves and a beaded inner trim, the original mirror plate displays sparkling crystals and a haze of foxing which adds further texture and sense of history to the piece.
