This painting depicts the Chicago water tower still standing in the flames and smoke in one of Chicago's greatest tragedies. The Chicago water tower was one of the few buildings to remain after the fire and the white paint rises off the painting as if to demonstrate the strength and resiliency of the collective human spirit.
