A 1992 monumental acrylic on canvas diptych painting by the American artist Kim Krause. Painted on two panels and titled Kepler/Paradox #1, this Postmodern work depicts a vibrant archway with teal and orange doors below. The arch is flanked by columns and is surrounded by an array of banisters, planets, geometric designs, and a black and white checkered floor below. Unframed, the painting is signed, titled, and dated to the verso and is held together with hinges at the center.
A native to Cincinnati, Krause received an undergraduate degree in Fine Art from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and a graduate degree in Painting from The Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College, New York. He worked as a professor of Art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, from which he retired from in 2018. Krause's work has been exhibited extensively and is held in the collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum, The Procter and Gamble Company, The Evansville Museum of Art, Macy’s National Headquarters, among many others. He has also served as artist-in-residence at the The Cooper Union, New York; Spiro Arts, Park City, Utah; The Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico; Rathausgalerie, Munich, Germany; Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida; and the Chateau, Rochefort-en-Terre, France.
