Framed in original wood frame with a gold inner moulding.

Ezra Elmer Keene was born in 1853 in England into a Quaker family. Elmer was a miller in his early years, but by 21 was working as a photographic artist. He became a painter, working in oils, watercolours and pastels and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1895. Despite not exhibiting widely, Elmer found a ready market for his work, as well as a large number of his works being turned into postcards- this photograph may have been one of them. His exquisite paintings of coastal and rural places and postcards made him a renowned artist of the Edwardian era. Elmer died in Leicester in 1929.
