The panels are crafted from lacquered wood expertly fitted into frames with mortise and tenon joinery. The screen is embellished with intricately carved soapstone, mother-of-pearl, and colorful painted backgrounds. Each panel displays a different scene with figures. The scenes are bordered by parcel gilt painted trim. The legs are supported by shaped spandrels and end with patinated brass clad feet. The reverse side depicts a stark parcel gilt display of flowers and vines. The carved soapstone decoration is surprisingly intact and complete given the screens age and use. The lacquer has a desirable aged patina on the finish. From an estate in Los Angeles, CA.
