The photo showing the back is a handwritten notation by my grandmother-in-law stating that it is an original purchased in London, England in 1960. The collection of these three Piranesi etchings have been in my husband's family for 64 years.
The antiquarian and master printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi can be credited with creating some of the most iconic and widely circulated images of the Italian peninsula and its ancient ruins. Trained as an architect and draftsman, Piranesi applied these skills to producing studies of Roman ruins that were popular sites among tourists. His most famous series was the Vedute di Roma - Views of Rome.

This is the original frame, mat, and glass from when it was purchased in 1960, so there is some age. The etching is not torn, but has age, as would be expected considering it was printed in 1756. less
