Large Scale … Read more This Really is a Great Looking and Quite Unusual Antique Sterling Silver Letter Opener. Circa Early 20th Century. Large Scale Measuring 9 inches Long and Substantially Cast in Solid Sterling Silver with a Weight of 99.33 Grams / 3.194 Troy Ounces!. The Top Section of the Blade is Beautifully Hand Engraved in a Classic Rococo Design. My Research Indicates that The Unusual Reticulated Handle being Rendered Bold - High Relief Serpent Wrapped Around a Palm Tree Motif is the Documented Pharmacy Symbol that was Used by France as well a Portuguese Order of Pharmacists. It Also has Poppy and Other Flowers. It is a Very Good Quality Piece with Wonderful Attention to Detail in the Features. It is Marked STERLING. It also is Stamped with a "S+F" Mark that I Could Not Identify but Most Likely is that of The Maker. In my Opinion the Piece was Actually Made in Portugal. It is in Very Nice Condition with Minimal Age and Use Wear. It has It is Lightly Tarnished - Could use a Good Buffing - Polishing.
