A modern mixed-media drawing with charcoal and watercolor on paper “Untitled (Figurative Portrait II) by Detroit artist Richard Kozlow. Hand signed bottom right. Circa 1970s. A dramatic composition in monotone colors. The nude subject appears to be contemplation which brings an element of mystery. The artist travelled extensively so this could be a portrait of a person he met during his travels to Spain, England, Costa Rica, Portugal, Mexico where Kozlow spent much of his time. From a private collection. Dimensions: 25.25""w x 19.75""d x 1.25""h (framed). In good vintage condition.
Richard Kozlow (1926-2008) was an artist who lived in Detroit, Michigan. During his prolific career he painted well over a thousand works. Richard Kozlow's formal training was limited to his abbreviated studies at Cass Technical High School and the College for Creative Studies. His paintings used materials in new ways, delving into the textures of old walls and peeling posters. He won (among others) the Museum Purchase prizes of the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Butler Art Institute.
