Hand painted in France circa 1820, and set in a gilt wood frame protected with glass, the artwork features two classical women figures set in a neoclassical architectural setting with tall columns and an arched window or opening in the background, through which a serene landscape can be seen, including distant hills or mountains. The figures are dressed in flowing drapery reminiscent of Greco-Roman attire, with one figure seated, resting her head on her hand, suggesting contemplation or a tender moment.
