Born in China during the early years of the 20th century, each of this pair of antique elm scholar's chairs features a curving back, adorned with a splat carved in low-relief. Each chair is flanked with curving open arms and gooseneck posts resting on a rattan seat. The chairs are raised on four straight legs with arch-shaped apron, the ensemble being strengthened by side stretchers.
