Sensitively cast and gilded by the Otto Meyers Foundry in Stockholm, this piece captures the heartbreaking moment when Orpheus sings to the heavens in mourning after losing Eurydice, the love of his life. Strindberg exhibited widely in Venice, Vienna, Reykjavik, Copenhagen and other cities across Europe in the 1920s and 30s, and he participated in the art exhibition sponsored by the 1932 Olympics. His works are in the collections of the National Museum and the Modern Museum in Stockholm, Rottneros Sculpture Park, the Gothenburg Art Museum and the Malmö Museum. The bronze sculpture shows the sculptor's signature and the foundry mark on the base. See less
