About the Collection (L'Estampe Moderne)
L'Estampe Moderne appeared in 1897-1899 as a series of 24 monthly fascicles, each containing 4 original lithographs, printed by Parisian Imprimerie Champenois. Many accomplished European Art Nouveau painters contributed works to this publication, which contained only Original prints invented and produced especially for this collection. The publication was edited by Charles Masson and H. Piazza. Each issue came in a paper cover bearing an original lithograph by Alphonse Mucha.
Each lithograph was accompanied by a tissue containing the details (title of the artwork, name of the artist, etc.) and a short text by a well-known author who inspired the artist (this one being by Dutch philologist, historian, librarian, lawyer and political scientist Pieter Burman the Elder / French: Pierre Burman).

About the artist
Fernand Piet (1869 - 1942, Paris) was a French painter, a student of Eugène Carrière, Fernand Cormon and Alfred Roll.
At the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des artistes français he exhibited his canvases and engravings of landscapes of Brittany. Holland and the South, and representations of common scenes: parks, children, markets. Piet is also the author of numerous female nudes and rare seascapes.
The economic wealth that his family provides him and the fortunate financial speculations on the Stock Exchange, allow him to lead a comfortable social life with his friends Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scevola, Edmond Lempereur and Jean-Louis Forain.
In 1905 he became with Paul Signac deputy director of the Salon des Indépendants, and in 1910 he received the honor of the Order of Academic Palms.

from the text on the tissue paper, by Pieter Burman the Elder:
