Carved in France circa 1870, and built of walnut wood, each plaque is octagonal in shape, with detailed depictions of various game animals. Each plaque exhibits the deep, rich carving style typical of Black Forest craftsmanship, known for its naturalistic and rustic themes often depicting wildlife. Each plaque features a unique scene of game animals hung up as if after a hunt, with impressive attention to detail. The first Plaque depicts a detailed carving of a fish, likely a pike, alongside a lobster, intertwined with flowing vines and leaves. The texture of the scales and the crustacean's claws is intricately rendered, emphasizing the naturalistic style of the piece. The second plaque depicts a hare and a bird suspended as if from a hunter's string, set against a background of oak leaves and acorns. The carving captures the fur and feathers of the animals with remarkable depth and realism. The next composition shows a bird, possibly a pheasant, hanging by its legs.
